Cutting Edge 2012: The Research Behind Sport:
I led the production of Cutting Edge 2012: the Research behind Sport, working in partnership with the Royal Institution (RI), BIS, The Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) and PODIUM (the Further and Higher Education Unit for the 2012 Games) to deliver a series of events that ran in the run up to the Olympics. Throughout 2012, in six locations across the UK, world-class researchers and top Team GB and Paralympics GB stars (including Tom Daley and Roger Black) showcased athletic demonstrations, discussed elite performance and invited the audience to share their views on the research behind the UK’s sporting achievements. Launched by Rt Hon David Willetts MP at the RI, these events were attended by over 2000 people, and brought leading edge research to new audiences. Cutting Edge 2012 was one of the outstanding projects granted the London 2012 Inspire mark, the badge of the London 2012 Inspire programme, which recognised exceptional and innovative projects inspired by the 2012 Games.

Energy Debate at the University of York
Experts from across the UK discussed how the future energy needs of the planet could be met as part of an interactive debate.
Members of the audience put questions to a panel of energy research experts about low carbon technologies such as nuclear, wind, biofuels, and carbon capture and storage. An electronic voting system was used to collect live opinions from the audience about their views on different energy scenarios.
